Dang. I hope they fix these cooling issues with the next Gen models. I have been going through many many gaming laptop reviews and I pretty much had my mind set on this. Do you think this will preform and cool better with the 5000 series AMD cpus?

Hope you stop endorsing Lenovo, Dave. I purchased a Legion Y540 less than a year ago after watching your review and the monitor started suddenly turning off recently. Impossible to get assistance.

How does this compare to the Y740?

This comment concerns a battery leak issue on the Lenovo Legion 7 related to the ICUE app. I contacted Lenovo and was sent instructions on how to solve this problem. The problem was solved very simply, I used only one item from the instructions - reset the power system to the default settings. This helps to restart the power for all elements of the laptop again and in the right order. So. 1. I removed the ICUE app from my laptop when I was trying to solve the problem myself. So I had to re-download and install it from the site. If you did not delete the application, then it will be enough to update it. 2. I have updated the ICUE app to the latest version. 3. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power supply and all connected external devices. 4. You need to hold down the power button and hold it for at least 60 seconds, I held it for a little more than a minute. 5. Press the power button and start the laptop. Everything! At this point, the problem disappeared and now with the backlight on and the ICUE application running, the laptop runs for an average of 5 hours.

HALP... Big dilemma. I'm able to get the Intel 6 core version of this one at the same price as the Legion 5 ryzen... same specs 144hz 100adobe rgb,rtx 2060 for the 5 for the vs 2070 max q for the 7...About 1200 euro open box (nearly new goods that have been returned due to small cosmetic flaws). Which one to take? Will the legion 7 still throttle at lower max q configs? I mainly play rpgs

Lenovo Legion 5 has 115 watt RTX 2060 which performs exactly the same as the RTX 2070 Max-Q in Legion 7. Last year, the reviewers confirmed that RTX 2070 MAX-Q is faster by 7% than 90 watt RTX 2060. But, this year Nvidia featured new refreshed RTX 2060 with 115 watt, which is almost exactly the same as the RTX 2070 Max-Q. I do not recommend you purchasing Lenovo Legion 7, especially because most users of this laptop experienced terrible hinge issues. Search for it in the reddit, and you will see that Lenovo decided to use glue for the hinges of Legion 7, and after 3-4 months, this hinges and screen breaks. Legion 5 will offer you better thermal performance and the build quality of its hinges is much superior

Hi, I had a question, have you had a problem with the lenovo legion 7i regarding the hinges that connect the screen to the keyboard breaking?

Just wanted to highlight a bigger issue for people who are gonna purchase the laptop, within about 45 days of my laptop usage my right side hinge is broken and my screen is tilted, personally the hinge mechanism is very weak in this, i have the metal build model of the legion 7i with 2070 max q graphics. So anyone who has thoughts on buying this please note the above, the metal build should have been sturdy but i guess its weaker than expected.

But according to Linus' review, the thermals are great, and if you only stress the cpu alone, it sustains at 90w, which is out of the world in this size category. I'm really confused.😕

built quality is terrible - Problem with hinges is very serious. They can break very easily and they do so after couple of weeks.

What would you recommend for someone who wants a high end laptop, especially for CP2077? I'm seriously considering the legion 7 but it becomes a bit less attractive if its going to throttle it.

Great laptop until you have an issue...then customer service goes down the drain..forget about replacing a defective laptop, and returning is out of the question even within the return policy time.

I think this laptop is a hit or miss with the hinge... apparently they did add new parts to it to make it better but it's hard to tell if the laptop you get has them. If I were looking buy one I'd rather wait for the next years model as they'll probably offer them with the ryzen 5000 cpus that are going to release paired up with the higher tier rtx 3070 and 3080 as well, besides the 1660ti and 3060

Due to conflicting marketing materials and before seeing this video I asked their support team about the vapor chambers. I was told vapor chambers came with 2070 and up. 2060 and below have the heat pipes so that agrees with what is being said here. Whether or not you get G-Sync is another point of confusion. They list three possible displays but in reality it is five combinations. The two with Dolby Vision can come with or without G-Sync. A support person told me a particular model had G-Sync because it has the 240Hz display (he was looking at that list of three options) but the documentation specific to that model did not say G-Sync. When I tried to build the machine myself using their customize tool it said G-Sync was not available unless I selected the "7i with G-Sync" model which starts with higher specs and costs considerably more. They really need to clean up their documentation and be more specific.

Is the body made of plastic? I have a 6 year old MSI GS60 Ghost Pro,with a toasted plastic body that already cracked and cannot run games anymore.

iCue is such garbage. It even hurts FPS numbers when it is running. The fact that you have to run iCue to keep the RGB settings is stupid. Let people set the settings and exit the software.

Laptop without a number pad is a deal breaker for me. Just try entering some numbers in an excel sheet on a keyboard without a dedicated number pad. You can, but it just sucks. Also, the extra RGB lighting is unnecessary.

Got this in the 240hz , 2070 Max Q version before your review...3 weeks later backlight failed down middle of screen....it’s a nice laptop but definitely gets VERY hot to the touch, even on performance mode in a not so intensive game (Stellaris) thankfully I finally got a full refund and thinking of going for the Trition 500 2070 Super Max Q instead. As Dave said...love to recommend but really wouldn’t...my Dad has the 5i and that’s 👌🏼
