No. Absolutely not worth it. Specs are way too low and there's no way 3rd party devs will be making an extra version of their games for microsoft's underpowered "budget" console. The already DON'T do it for the Nintendo switch and that install base is huge.

4K Gaming on a TV 40-50'' makes sense, but if you are playing on a Monitor or you stand near your 24-27'' TV then it doesn't make sense. That's why the consoles are targeting 4K because it is the perfect resolution for most people who are watching for a far and they have 40'' TVs and right now 4K is much cheaper that it was i mean you can get 4K TV 60FPS with 350 bucks with good brands like LG(IPS) or Samsung(VA). On PCs side we are infront of your monitors 24-27'' for us 4K doesn't make sense, only for people with wide monitors and VRs but those are rare cases. anyway if you want to buy a tv VA or IPS avoid Edge Led TVs go for Direct Led or something similiar to Direct Led. And as for XBOX Series S with 4TFLOPs i bet that it can run the games hardly on 1080p60fps and on rare cases(none AAA games) 1080p120fps or 1440p60fps so i would say that it is 1080p console but the games support up to 1440p textures that doesn't not mean the console is strong enough to run the games at 1440p. But even if it has better optimization and amds caching and cpu gpu combo for extra performance i don't think that it will be far off from rx 5500 xt, i hope that i'm wrong but i just can't imagine it running games on 1440p120fps. PS5 Pro had 4TFLOPs and XBox One X has 6TFLOPs GPU, but those consoles have weak cpu and slow hdd drive. I Mean go watch on youtube what RX 5500 XT can do, thats an RDNA gpu and is 5.2TFLOPs this gpu is for 1080p60fps and even there it doesn't run the games on Ultra you always need to lower the graphics to get to 60fps and only in rare cases it run games 1080p120fps not 1440p120fps so the 1440p Marketing on Series S is bullcrap i think. The only way for the Series S to be able to Run 1440p60FPS would be something like 7TFLOPs. And for PS5 10TFLOPs GPU is near RX 5700 XT performance, if we say that with consoles better optimizations it can hit 4K60FPS i will say yes its possible but 4K120FPS? not even on sonys dreams only on rare cases(not AAA games). Both PS5 and XBox Series S run ZEN2 on 3.5ghz without SMT i guess, but XBOX Series X run at 3.8ghz and 3.6ghz with smt on so theoretically even on CPU side Series X is little better. With little words i say XBOX Series X 2160p(4K) 60Fps and XBOX Series S 1080p 60Fps.

Sooooo bummed that I bought a new game console... I bought three Xbox Series S and it doesn't do the MAIN thing it's advertised to do! It won't display 1440p @ 120hz... And yes, I have the proper equipment! FULLY tested with my PC, using an 8K, 2.1 HDMI cable, playing GOW 5 on my 2070 Super on mostly ultra settings at 2k - 120HZ! No prob... BUT, then I plug the SAME HDMI cable into my series s and it says either "your resolution doesn't support this refresh rate" or "your refresh rate doesn't support this resolution"!? At this point it does either 1440p @ 60hz OR 1920 @ 120hz and NO setting adjustment makes it work... It's 100% an Xbox / Microsoft issue that needs resolved asap! the thing is, on games like cod and fortnite, you only get 60fps, and i play both competitively, so if other people do too, and you want the new xbox or ps5 for the 120fps, its capped at 60, so just keep that in mind.

Fortnite hasn’t been optimised for the series s, it took the iPad Pro like a year to get 120fps support. Also ,don’t quote me on this but I believe that the series s can play cod Cold War at 120fps .

Guys stop comparing console to pc. Its honestly stupid. This is a way better value and you cannot deny it. No 300 dollar pc can beat this right now. Maybe in a years time, but at this current moment for basically anybody on a budget, this is an amazing option. Now, unless that person on a budget really cares about desktop workloads then the pc at 600-1200 dollars is a very good option. For that money you can easily get a full setup(monitor keyboard and mouse) brand new, with a Ryzen 3 3100 and a Radeon 5500XT. With used you can probably go with even better. I will personally be getting a Ryzen 7 5800X and a Radeon RX 6800XT respectively as soon as I can get my hands on one. The cpus are out of stock everywhere :( No nvidia / intel for me ever because I use linux. NVidia/Intel suck on linux due to several issues.

My only thing with the Series S is, there's no disc drive. We watch a TON of DVDs and Blu-rays, not to mention our massive cabinets of CDs (don't get me started on Audio fidelity.) The console is completely obsolete. Framerate is already being sacrificed with Assassins Creed Valhalla on the Series S being at 30 fps instead of 60 with the Series X. Storage is another issue. At most you'll have 3 games, and if you want to increase storage it'll cost $200, but at that point it would make more sense to buy an X.

Framerate, more advance physics and much smarter AIs should be the main focus for gaming. Im soo tired of enemy AIs that are so dumb like in spiderman ps4, last of us, far cry, batman, etc etc. They are just mindless Ais that are easy to exploit.

I doubt that the difference would only be resolution once we get more demanding games in the mid to late cycle of next gen's life. That 4tf of gpu is not only responsible for resolution, but also for more complicated physics, and etc. Later on they will also tone down the graphics, and texture for demanding next gen games for series s to keep up with more stable framerates. The most problematic is the 10 gb ram.

This guy knows what he's talking about. I've been gaming on consoles since 2005(bought the Xbox 360 back when there was still a 'Core' edition), and the biggest shift to my gaming experience was when I went from gaming with an AV(640*480) cable to a VGA one(1366*768). Since then, it's all been incremental. 1080p was great. My One S plays shooter games at 60fps with HDR which are both substantial improvements, and playing at 1080p PC on Ultra with the settings maxed out at 75fps is even better -> but each of them are less significant to the overall experience than the one before. Moving from SDTV to HDTV(720p) was the greatest change. 30 to 60fps was a huge change. Moving up from ~768p/900p to 1080p was a good change, but less substantial. HDR really brings out the colors sometimes, but it's not as noticeable as any of these changes that were preceding it. The difference between 4K and 1440p is going to be so low that most people will be hard-pressed to tell the difference - I have a 4K TV, and I can't tell between 4K videos and a good quality 1080p HDR stream unless I am really looking for the subtle changes.

I currently play on Xbox One X on a 4K TV, but I still think I'm going to side-grade to the Xbox Series S. Yeah, I lose out on 4K, but that little box is just optimized so well, it's an upgrade in every other department other than resolution. The Xbox Series X won't fit in my media cabinet, it's such an awkward shape, and I'm not a serious enough of a gamer to start replacing furniture.

There are still a few games that have smart delivery on the series x that will not have smart delivery on the series s Plus, it was just confirmed that there will be around 385 GB of space for games and apps, I highly doubt the games will be a smaller download size than they were for the one s, meaning you can only have a few games at a time on the series s

"No real deficiency". Famous last words! I would recommend waiting before claiming that it's all fine and dandy in 1440p when we haven't seen any games being played on next-gen consoles. The developers are the ones who decide if these specs are enough for them and also they are the ones who are developing the games and they might not wanna spend extra time to fine-tune their games for a lesser console. Yes, most games might run well on all consoles with their respective resolutions but I'm suspecting that we'll see games that are just way better to be played on the X or PS5.

I disagree. Resolution matters. Especially when your tv is 50-55’’ and above which is typical nowadays. And yeah, frame rate also do matter, but depending on the type of game you are playing, sometimes resolution enhances the whole experience more than the FPS. + once you go 4K , everything you display in 1080p and 1440p will look ugly .. its just so hard going back ...
